Founded by Claud Cecil Gurney with his nephew Dominic Evans-Freke, and now joined by his daughters Hannah and Rachel, de Gournay brings interiors to life with exquisite reinterpretations of historic, hand painted papers and engaging contemporary collections: applying their bespoke expertise to projects with the leading designers of the age.

Recruiting the talents of true artists, de Gournay’s unceasing commitment to creative innovation has seen them transition from cult niche to industry leaders, with showrooms located around the world – London, Paris, New York, San Francisco, Shanghai and Beirut – and most recently a residence in Los Angeles: showcasing de Gournay’s designs in the manner of a private interior.

Published in 2020, the first monograph on the company explored its unique position as the contemporary conduit of an ancient craft – demonstrating its diverse creative repertoire not only within the field of interior design, but also engaging collaborations and intrepid forays into the wider cultural sphere. A newly announced second book will explore specifically projects undertaken with historic houses and the recreation of original Chinese wallpapers – typifying de Gournay’s self-appointed practice of making ‘antiques of the future’.
