Thomas Messel is the nephew of Oliver Messel and is one of England’s most eminent furniture designers. He has won a number of prestigious design awards over the past thirty years and has an international reputation for designing and creating furniture of classical beauty. Having served as an officer in the Household Cavalry, he spent three years with L Messel & Co in the City of London before establishing his furniture design studio.
Thomas was involved in the refurbishment of two of Oliver Messel’s design projects, the Dorchester Hotel and Flaxley Abbey. He is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers and a Freeman of the City of London. He lives in Bristol with his wife Pepe who is a painter. Their son, Hal, is a sculptor and silversmith.
Thomas lectures frequently in Britain and the USA. His book, ‘Oliver Messel: In the Theatre of Design’, was winner of the Spear’s Book Award 2012.
