Our Modern and Contemporary Art auction offers a wide variety of works, including paintings, works on paper and sculpture, comprising traditional and post-war Modern British art, alongside Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and international contemporary art. Highlights include an exceptional painting of Lamorna Cove by Dame Laura Knight, dating from circa 1920, as well as works by other important artists from the Newlyn School of artists, including Samuel Lamorna Birch and Sir Alfred Munnings. Other standout works by British artists include a sixties drawing of a walking man by David Hockney; a sculptural study by Henry Moore; a striking portrait by Glyn Philpot of his model and friend Arthur Christie; and two oils by Bloomsbury artist, Vanessa Bell. Continental artists are also well represented with notable works including a tender portrait of mother and daughter by Henri Lebasque, a port scene by Pierre Bonnard, a group of abstract works by Alberto Magnelli, as well as further drawings and paintings by important artists such as Marc Chagall, Armand Guillaumin, Henri Fantin-Latour and Raoul Dufy. You can now view highlights from the auction from the comfort of your home with the Dreweatts 360 Virtual Auction Tour of the galleries at our London Pall Mall saleroom.
