This spring we have our Transport Sale on 20 April. Featuring a wide array of model engineering works of art and live steam models, a highlight from the auction is The Hewell and Tardebigge Model Steam Railway Collection (Lots 42-66).
The collection features twenty five lots of 5 inch gauge Locomotives and Rolling Stock which have been run regularly at Model Steam Railway. The railway was set up by the retired Chartered Surveyor Michael Price and internationally known railway engineer John Glaze. It was John Glaze who built and/or rebuilt some of the locomotives being offered in the auction. The railway has been run for the past twenty years by a team of local enthusiastic model engineers.
A highlight from the collection is Lot 42, this exhibition standard 5 inch gauge model of the Great Western Railway 4-6-0 King Class tender locomotive, No 6026 'King John'. The model was originally built by Messrs Pen.Y.Darren engineers of Bath in 1974 to the Wilson/Kennion design. It was then rebuilt by John Glaze in 2007.
The model is built in 1 1/16th to the foot scale and is finished in full 1934 Great Western Railway livery with polished bright-work. It has been recently run at The Hewell and Tardebigge Steam Railway.
Continuing through the collection we also have Lot 43, this Great Western Railway 4-6-0 Saint Class tender locomotive, No 2921 'Saint Dunstan'. The model was rebuilt by John Glaze in 2006. Again this model was built in 1 1/16th to the foot scale and is finished in full 1934 Great Western Railway livery with polished bright-work. It has been recently run at The Hewell and Tardebigge Steam Railway.
The collection also features Lot 46, a rake of six 5 inch gauge Great Western Railway bogie coaches. These were built by Aristocraft Models in the Great Western Railway fully panelled livery. It comes with removable footrests, sprung compensated bogies, spring buffers and couplings, two brake ends and four off composites. There are also stainless steel water tanks fitted into the two brake ends.
