This January, Dreweatts is excited to present a remarkable collection of large format Bordeaux wines in our auction on Tuesday 28 January. Here, Senior Wine Consultant, Mark Robertson, tells us more about this fantastic collection and highlights some of its standout offerings.
A phrase that is so often used and only occasionally merits, "These are really important wines". Imperials of 2003 Chateau Latour or 2009 Chateau Palmer do not pass by one’s desk every day. Alongside them are Double Magnums of the quite beautiful 2005 Chateau Figeac, and 2009 Chateau Pavie, as well as First Growths from all the best recent vintages, and a personal favourite - Magnums of a wine I will never forget tasting from barrel - the breathtaking 2009 Chateau Pontet Canet.
Whether a collective noun or not - to a wine lover, it is a hallucination of some of the greatest Bordeaux made over the last 20 years and in formats very rarely seen. These wines are works of art – either to be shown and displayed, hidden away for many years for another generation or just drunk over the forthcoming years.
Owners of these wines will be the custodians of part of Bordeaux’s history. With over 70 lots, this private collection is offered in perfect condition and Under Bond. Dreweatts is honoured be able to offer them for sale in January.
Although like being asked to choose your favourite child, other highlights include:
Magnums
2009 Chateau Ausone
Double Magnums
2010 Chateau Margaux
2009 Chateau La Mission Haut Brion
Imperials
2016 Chateau Lynch Bages
2012 Chateau Mouton Rothschild
