Doric and Floral in style, this substantial North German/Dutch figured walnut Hallenschrank or press cupboard made in the first half 18th century and featuring a moulded cornice above the central tablet would make a striking feature in any hallway or landing.
From Waystrode Manor, Kent, our furniture experts expect this piece to achieve between £5,000-7,000 (+fees) at Dreweatts upcoming auction of Fine Furniture, Ceramics and Works of Art at Donnington Priory, Newbury on 11 September.
The cupboard features an arch panelled door with a carved terminal incorporating flowers, opening to a shelved interior. The doors are also flanked by a floral decorated pilaster on each side, and surmounted by a Doric style capital centred by a bat mask.
The piece stands on turned legs and heavy turned feet. The cupboard measures 210cm high, 205cm wide and 82cm deep.
