About the maker - Barry Jordan

Barry J Jordan’s passion for model making began at Joseph Wright Art School in Derby. A career in the Experimental Department at Rolls Royce followed and it wasn’t until 1993 that Barry retired to his workshop to focus full time on model making. 

Throughout the late 90s, Barry produced a number of award-winning miniature scale classic machine tools. In 2003 Barry was the first person in the UK to be awarded the Martin Foundation’s Metalworking Craftsman of the Year.

Barry’s model making excellence has earned him international fame amongst the model making community. The five models consigned to May’s Transport sale from Barry’s personal collection have all won awards throughout Great Britain.

Lot 72: A very fine engineered exhibition standard model of a 1/5th scale Qualters & Smith ‘Sawmaster’ 6 inch power hacksaw

Built by Barry Jordan in 1999, the model is 8 inches high and of exhibition standard. Our specialists have given lot 72 a presale estimate of £500-1,000 (+ fees).

Lot 73: A very fine and multi award winning 1/5th scale exhibition model of an Archdale MH50 Radial Arm Drilling Machine

Again built by Barry Jordan in 1998, the model is 26 inches high and was produced with full access to the original machine.

Lot 74: A very fine engineered model of a 1/5th scale Mk 1 Clarkson Tool and Cutter Grinder

Lot 74 was built by Barry Jordan between 1997 and 1998, from access to the full size machine; courtesy of Mr A Booth of Woodborough, Notts.

Lot 75: A very fine and multi award winning 1/5th scale exhibition model of a Dean Smith & Grace Heavy Duty Lathe

Built by Barry Jordan in 2000, from Dean Smith & Grace sales literature and access to full size machines. 

The model is 12 1/2 inches high by 32 1/2 inches long and our specialists have given it a presale estimate of £2,000-3,000 (+ fees).

Lot 76: A very fine and multi award winning 1/5th scale exhibition model of a Bridgeport Milling machine

Built by Barry Jordan in 1997, from an original detailed handbook and a full size machine courtesy of Gratton Engineering, Derby.

In 1998 this fine model won Best in Show at The Harrogate Model Engineering Exhibition.

The models outstanding record of achievement and its excellent condition have earned it a presale estimate of £10,000-15,000 (+ fees).
