On Tuesday 14 & Wednesday 15 November, we are pleased to present our auction Bardon Hall by Tomasso. The auction offers an exciting opportunity to attain works from the Tomasso collection. Dino and Raffaello Tomasso are two of the most respected dealers of European sculpture, Old Master paintings and ancient art. Here, Dino and Raffaello, they tell us more about their collection.
Throughout the last few decades, having previously ‘cut our teeth’ with everyday dealing in antiques, both of us have thoroughly enjoyed so many moments in the art world. From our deep love of the ancient world, all the way to the late Neoclassical sculpture from the school of Canova, we have endeavoured to absorb as much knowledge as possible, which, in turn, has allowed us to achieve greater expertise in the fields of which we are so passionate. The thrill of the chase, the challenge of our ‘eye’, along with the excitement of assessing varying scenarios when buying, is something that still drives us every day.
We have been fortunate throughout our careers to have rediscovered works of art that have been lost through the passing of time. Many of these have been acquired by internationally renowned institutions, along with some of the world’s greatest collectors of European sculpture, paintings, and decorative arts. Amongst these are the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, both of which have been a true inspiration to us every time we have had the pleasure of visiting these exceptional museums.
Through our auction at Dreweatts, we have tried to present an overview of our taste, represented by objects that are dear to our hearts. These range from our love of ancient coloured marbles, Renaissance sculpture, Yorkshire vernacular furniture, through to sculptors such as Joseph Gott, all of which can be found in the present offering.
We both hope that the elegance with which Dreweatts have presented our objects will be appreciated and enjoyed by collectors and friends.
