On Tuesday 25 June, we have our auction of Fine Wine, Champagne, Vintage Port and Spirits. The auction provides an exciting platform to obtain bottles from across the globe, offering a wonderful selection to suit all tastes and pockets. Here, Senior Wine Consultant, Mark Robertson, tells us more about a particular highlight from the Languedoc Roussillon region, the Domaine de la Grange des Peres.
Domaine de la Grange des Peres is arguably the greatest wine from Languedoc. Globally coveted, the late Laurent Vaillé started the Domaine in 1988 after working with Domaines Chave, Coche Dury and Trévallon - a celestial CV that has no doubt influenced his heavenly wines.
He was often described as the Mozart of Wine, which to be honest, I am not sure why and can find no reasonable explanation. He was a modest reclusive man, flying very much under the radar and happiest in his vineyard. His understated label might reveal much about the man behind this great wine.
In 1992 the first vintage was released. The drinker takes a deep, rich, elegant dive into Syrah and Mourvèdre with a splash of Cabernet and the local Couvoise. Only 2,500 cases of red are made. A fraction of that for the Blanc (1,200 bottles) from a 1-hectare vineyard. The complex oak aged Roussanne, Marsanne and Chardonnay displays Roger Federer levels of concentration, and both have a remarkable capacity to age.
As is often the case, after the passing of great wine maker, a premium is placed upon the wine. His understanding and the influence he had on his terroir, his drive and mastery in the winery makes this entirely understandable. The Domaine remains safely in the hands of his brother.
In our forthcoming auction on 25 June, we provide an unprecedented opportunity to own these wines, with multiple vintages from 2000-2016. All have been professionally stored since first release.
This is a live online auction with an auctioneer.
