Poppy Rosemary Smith

After almost ten years working alongside some of the industry’s most talented interior designers, Poppy has recently launched her own design studio.

The studio is intentionally small and personal, allowing Poppy to remain closely involved in every project, from the initial ideas through to the smallest finishing details. With a degree in Historic Building Conservation, she has a particular appreciation for old buildings.

Poppy’s interiors are colourful, but rarely loud; full of pattern but not overly coordinated. She is drawn to soft, chalky and weathered colour, unexpected combinations of fabrics and patterns, and materials that become more beautiful with age. She likes things that feel as though they have found their way into a house over time, rather than having all been chosen at once.

Antiques naturally form part of the mix, but the aim is never to create a perfectly styled interior. Poppy prefers homes with a sense of freedom — rooms that can be rearranged, added to and lived in without feeling precious. Scuffed furniture, piles of books and collections of odd things are all part of the charm.

For Poppy, the best interiors feel personal, comfortable and a little unexpected. They should reflect the people who live in them, rather than the designer who created them.

She is currently working on a Georgian farmhouse in Cornwall and a six-bedroom country house in Wiltshire.
