If Dreweatts’ Fine Furniture, Carpets, Ceramics & Works of Art sale were to have a theme this June then Top-Notch would be the perfect description.
We have a catalogue packed with highly sought-after pieces, excellent and original examples of their period and type, and accommodating all tastes whether searching for the quintessentially classical or the daringly alternative.
To whet appetites, consider these stunning and sublime Brocket Hall Commodes.
We have an exquisite pair of Louis XV carved beech armchairs circa 1760 and from a private collection – a stunning feature in either a contemporary or classic work or living space. Surely an interior designer’s dream?
Another stunning piece that would grace any setting is this Ziegler Mahal carpet, depicting flowers and with profusely decorated borders and guard stripes.
We also have some lovely pieces illustrating beautifully the Chinese influence on English Furniture at the turn of the 19th century, including this stunning set of eight George III black painted and parcel gilt dining chairs, of cockpen type, circa 1800.
Each chair denotes this interesting chapter in English design history by way of their rectangular trellis backs, and similar arms.
Whilst not themselves Chippendale, they are heavily influenced by the designs of Thomas Chippendale and whilst not themselves Chippendale, they are based on the Chinese inspired designs of Thomas Chippendale and some of his contemporaries – which were very much in vogue at the time.
We have a number of other beautifully lacquered items that are all excellent representatives of their style, including these stunning pair of armchairs from a private collection are which are rare examples of their type from the late 17th/ very early 18th century.
Also, this stunning Regency black lacquer and chinoiserie decorated tripod table, circa 1815.
With a rectangular tilt top decorated with a traditional village scene and with gilt metal mounted edge is a stunning piece that would add a a rich and exotic accent to any interior – contemporary or traditional.
If black lacquer, chinoiserie decorated or japanned items do not float your sampan, then perhaps one of our fabulous pieces of oyster veneered furniture will pique interest.
Often hard to source, we are thrilled to have several items that are in prime condition including this delightful William & Mary, olivewood oyster veneered and walnut banded chest of drawers, circa 1690…
… as well as this late 17th century Anglo-Dutch carved walnut, oak and oyster veneered side table.
For our needlework aficionados, this June we have a fascinating group of 17th and 18th century needlework pieces from a single private Wiltshire collection – all of which are wonderful examples of their type and in attractive condition.
A floral themed wool and silk embroidered needlework panel, circa 1740…
Another depiction of the Sacrifice of Isaac, this time a Franco- Flemish tapestry panel from the mid- 17th century…
If early pieces are desired then this month’s sale will not disappoint. We have many beautiful examples from such eras of design including this delightful Charles I oak long stool, circa 1620…
We do hope you find something to spark joy from this June’s Dreweatts’ Furniture, Carpet, Ceramics & Works of Art sale.
