This October, Dreweatts' auction of Fine and Rare Wine and Spirits has an array of sumptuous delights on offer to please the palette and soothe the soul as Autumn nights draw in and warmth beyond the fireside is required…
If we were to describe this sale in one word it would be 'Opportunity’…
With a stunning selection of mixed Bordeaux cases, a unique white Burgundy collection and a chance to buy Chateau Gaby in a variety of vintages and format, this is an opportunity to own wine that you would very rarely have the chance to buy.
Our wine specialists are thrilled to be able to offer over 70 lots from the historic vineyard of Chateau Gaby, Canon-Fronsac.
Only 7,000 cases are produced per year - the majority of wine is drunk locally or in the USA and with a retail price of between £20-30 per bottle - this a unique opportunity to own these wines in the UK.
The lots in the auction are from 2000-2008, bottled in various formats and shipped directly from the chateau and stored in a temperature controlled cellar. Ideal for drinking this autumn/winter or laying down for the medium term.
Remaining in the same family for 250 years until 1999, the potential of this jewel in the Fronsac appellation was recognized in 2000 and has passed through a couple of new owners since. Both have made major investments into this wonderful historic vineyard. New investment married with historic terroir and modern wine making has created a sensational, yet hard to find Bordeaux wine. Very close to St Emilion in style, this small vineyard makes beautiful, attractive, elegant and harmonious Bordeaux.
Mark Robertson, Head of Dreweatts Wine Department, offers the following tasting notes:
2003 Chateau Gaby
At its best now and will drink well for a further two years. Lovely sweet ripe fruit and soft tannins. Plums, dark fruits entwined with a whiff of toasty oak. Very smooth and balanced for this very warm vintage. A model claret. Very versatile.
2005 Chateau Gaby
Drinking very well now and will continue to age gracefully for a further 5 + years. A fine ambassador for the outstanding 2005 vintage and all its strengths manifest in all aspects of Chateau Gaby. A blockbuster of Bordeaux Deep crimson in colour. The nose is restrained and elegant. The palate is concentrated with terrific structure and an abundance of black fruits, cassis liqueur and toasty oak. A perfect entertaining Bordeaux especially with the leaves starting to fall and the night’s drawing in. Stunning value
These lots, along with over 300 additional lots of wine and spirits will go under the hammer at Donnington Priory on 11 October 2019.
