Taking place this Autumn is our Fine Jewellery, Silver, Watches and Objects of Vertu auction on 16 November. Offering a sneak peek at the auction, James Nicholson, Head of Jewellery, Silver and Watches, provides an insight into some of the fabulous pieces already consigned.
Already consigned to the auction, is this Magic Alhambra mother of pearl and chalcedony necklace by luxury French jewellers Van Cleef & Arpels. In the iconic Magic Alhambra design, the graduating quatrefoil panels are set with a combination of polished chalcedony and white and grey mother of pearl, all of which are adorned with beaded borders and linked by faceted belcher link chains.
From Port Royal, Jamaica, this late 17th century tortoiseshell wig comb case and double-sided comb was created by Paul Bennet, who was the only registered comb maker at this time in Jamaica. The rectangular case is engraved with ‘PORT: ROYAL IN IAMICA: 1690’ above the coat of arms of Jamaica with banner inscribed ‘INDUS UTERQUE SERVIET UNI' below, the reverse is decorated with a native fruit tree. The corners of the case are decorated with silver panels which are engraved with flowers, inside the case is a double-sided tortoiseshell comb, engraved with floral motifs.
First launched in 1967, the Oyster Perpetual Sea‑Dweller was designed to meet the challenge of prolonged underwater missions, which is accomplished with its patented helium escape valve located on the side of the watch. Included in our Autumn auction, this Oyster Perpetual Sea Dweller, circa 2021, with black dial and stainless steel case offers both timeless elegance and functionality to a keen adventurer.
Also offered in the upcoming auction is a magnificent 18 carat gold necklace by Danish jewellers and silversmiths Georg Jensen. The elegant curvature of the polished links draw inspiration from sycamore pods which are strung together to a concealed clasp. Dated 2014, and designed by Bent Gabrielsen, the necklace is presented in a Georg Jensen case.
A stunning highlight of the auction is this George III diamond lyre brooch, circa 1810. It is bright and lively with old mine cut diamonds decorating the frame and a targeted cluster to the base that is further accentuated with decorative gold strings. The brooch is numbered to the reverse 1271, in a later associated case stamped Lambert Jewellers Coventry St London.
Another watch highlight included in this auction is this Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust Wimbledon stainless steel bracelet watch. The Swiss watch maker has been the official timekeeper of the Wimbledon tournament for over forty decades, and to symbolise the collaboration, Rolex designed a unique dial for the Rolex Datejust, naming it the ‘Wimbledon Rolex’. A creation of this collaboration, this watch has the signature Wimbledon dial in an elegant slate grey. Circa 2022, the watch is presented in a classic green Rolex box with a guarantee card and instruction booklet.
