Our timed online auction of Jewellery, Silver, Watches, and Luxury Accessories auction concludes on Thursday 16 January. Among the selection of items, we are delighted to present jewellery from the collection of British couturier Victor Edelstein and his late wife, Annamaria Succi.
The couple have lived in London, Andalucía, Venice, and more recently the Cotswolds. Their jewellery and accessories collection reflects their shared life journey, including pieces acquired in London, Italy, and during travels to places such as India. Here, James Nicholson, Head of Silver, Watches & Luxury Accessories, shares more about Victor and Annamaria and their beautiful collection.
Victor was universally admired as a couturier in the 1980s, designing luxurious clothing at the very top of the fashion world for the cream of society. His client list included the Duchess of Kent, Princess Michael of Kent, Anna Wintour, the Countess of Snowden and most memorably, Diana, Princess of Wales. It was at Anna Harvey’s instigation as deputy editor of British Vogue that Victor started to work with Diana, and helping to transform Diana’s ‘look’ into the world famously sleek and sophisticated fashion icon she became during the 1980s. Some of Victor’s most famous designs for Diana included the midnight blue dress she wore to waltz across the White House floor with John Travolta. Since 1993 both Victor and Annamaria have been acclaimed painters in their own rights.
The jewellery and accessories in Victor and Annamaria’s collection are bold and colourful. From big chunky pastel amethyst beads (Lot 174), large multicoloured jadeite and agate beads (Lot 197), and a playful multi coloured sapphire ring (Lot 170), the collection exudes confidence and exuberance. In the honoured tradition of jewellery trendsetters from Coco Chanel and Diana Vreeland in the early 20th century, to Anna Wintour today, the collection mixes bold ‘real’ jewellery with fabulous costume jewellery, such as the Lacroix earrings (Lot 209); the whimsical ‘Gnocchi’ ear clips from Fabrice Paris (Lot 206); and a collection of ear clips designed by Victor Edelstein himself (Lot 205).
