Featured in our Transport Sale on the 20 April, we have The Stonier Collection (Lots 98-108). The collection comprises eleven lots which were built by the late Mr Leslie Walter Frank Stonier of Antsy in Wiltshire. Mr Stonier originated from Porlock in North Somerset and spent his life as a farm-worker, later moving to the small village of Antsy in Wiltshire.
Mr Stonier had a life time interest in rural steam and stationary engines and from a boy had a high ability when it came to repairing items and model engineering. He had a close connection with M J Engineering of Ringwood and many of the models he built were from their castings and drawings.
A highlight from the collection is Lot 100, an exhibition standard 2 inch scale model of a Burrell showman's tractor. It was built by the late Mr Stonier. The castings were supplied by M J Engineering of Hampshire. The prototype for this model is engine No. 3868 built in 1921 and was last used by Arnolds, the famous Isle of Wight showman.
We will also be offering Lot 102, an exhibition standard 1 inch scale model of an agricultural ploughing engine. It was built by the late Mr Stonier. The model has a boiler with a fitted pressure gauge, water sight glass, regulator, fire box door and lever operated direction control. It is finished in brown and black paintwork with polished brass boiler bands, detailed rivet-work, shaped spoked flywheel, geared ploughing drum with a wire rope, strakes and spoked wheels with polished brass hub caps.
Another impressive model from the collection is Lot 108, an exhibition standard 2 inch scale model of a Burrell 8 ton Road Roller. Again, this was built by the late Mr Stonier. The model is finished in dark red livery with motion guard and has the builder's plaque 'Chas Burrell & Sons Limited Manufacturers Thetford. England'. The castings were supplied by M J Engineering of Hampshire.
The collection also features Lot 98, a single phase Myford Super 7b Model Engineers lathe on stand. This is fitted with a cross slide, tool post, chuck and sundry related items.
