This November, Dreweatts are pleased to announce a two-day auction of Fine Watches from a Single Owner Collection on 24 & 25 November. Here, we take a look at some of the highlights.
Part One will be offered on Wednesday 24 November in a Live auction. The auction includes 90 watches from leading luxury wristwatch brands such as Rolex, Patek Philippe, Omega, Tag Heuer, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Panerai and Grand Seiko amongst other highly sought after names.
Part Two will then be offered in a timed online auction, ending on Thursday 25 November. Comprising 125 lots, this auction will offer modern and vintage wristwatches by brands such as Hamilton, Bulova, Seiko and Edox. The collection also has newcomer brands sourced from kickstarter.com, such as REC (who make their watches from recycled classic Porsches and Mustangs), as well as other young brands using innovative materials.
The collection has been lovingly put together over the last 40 years. The owner fondly recalls being fascinated in his younger days by his grandfather's two Roskopf pocket watches, which beguiled him with their moving parts. This inspired him to begin his own watch collecting journey. In 1981, he bought his first two vintage Rolex watches in Portobello Road, including a 9-carat gold Art Deco Rolex Oyster Octagonal cased wristwatch (circa 1928) which is included in this sale.
The owner has built his collection around beautiful mechanical pieces and all the watches (except for a few) being offered in the collection have mechanical movements, including brands such as Swatch which are usually associated with quartz movements. In the collector's words "watches with mechanical movements are alive, with hearts that beat to time".
