James has over 30 year experience in the fine art and auction world.

He began his career at Mappin & Webb before joining Bonhams, where he became a senior jewellery specialist and obtained his professional gemmological and diamond grading qualifications.

After having run his own business for several years, James joined Dreweatts in 2005 and was appointed Deputy Chairman in 2013. In addition to Fine Silver, Watches and Objects of Vertu, James has introduced and promoted new collecting areas of specialisation such as Luxury Accessories, Watches and Fine Pens.

Amongst James’ successes at Dreweatts were the 600 lot single owner sale of handbags and luxury accessories; the three-day‘ East Meets West’ auction in January 2018, and in 2022, James curated the sale of silver and luxury items from the Collection of Victoria, Lady de Rothschild.
