Auction Results | From Florence to Fitzrovia: The Discerning Eye of Ian Rosenfeld | Wednesday 28 January 2026

On Wednesday 28 January, we held our From Florence to Fitzrovia: The Discerning Eye of Ian Rosenfeld auction. The collection, assembled over the course of Ian Rosenfeld’s lifetime, encompassed a broad range of works, from Old Master paintings, sculpture and furniture to Modern and Contemporary art and design, as well as African and Oceanic art.

The collection, from Rosenfeld's Bloomsbury townhouse ‘The Clock House’, reflected his considered approach to collecting and his enduring interest in bringing classical and contemporary works into thoughtful dialogue. The sale attracted enthusiastic bidding from across the globe and achieved over £1 million (including buyer's premium) and 142% of the presale estimate.

Commenting on Ian's collecting style, Joe Robinson, Head of the House Sales and Private Collections Department at Dreweatts, said, “Ian’s remarkable ability - both as a collector and as a gallerist - to move fluidly from the Renaissance to the contemporary world gave rise to a visual language that was unmistakably his own. He was never daunted by the dialogue between the classical and the modern, a confidence reflected throughout the collection coming to auction. His gift for curating works that illuminate cultural connections is evident in every piece, offering collectors a rare opportunity to engage with his vision, and much missed yet ever fabled ‘eye’.”
