Coming up this summer, we have our timed online auction of Silver, Precious Objects and Pens. The auction offers 380 lots, with a selection of items from antique through to modern designs. Here we take a look at some of the highlights.
First we take a look at Lot 28, this Victorian silver ewer by Martin, Hall & Co. which combines elegance with functionality. It is beautifully decorated with strapwork and flowers, with a leaf capped loop handle incorporating ivory warming bands, chased foliate and beaded bands, and finished with a cone finial to the cover. The detailed engraving and classic form of the ewer highlight the exceptional skill of the silversmiths.
We then have Lot 35, a pair of late Victorian silver candlesticks, produced by the renowned Walker & Hall in 1897. For those looking to add a touch of luxury to their dining table, these will make a great addition to any dinner party.
This stunning silver Art Deco three piece tea set (Lot 67), made by Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co. Ltd of London in 1936, is typical of the period. With its sleek geometric form and bold lines it exemplifies the elegance and modernity of the 1920s and 1930s design ethos.
A rather interesting item is Lot 68, a silver gilt wager cup by Birch & Gaydon, London. These festive double ended drinking vessels were popular during the late 16th and 17th centuries. Often referred to as Jungfrauenbecher 'Maiden Cups', or sometimes Bridal Cups for the bride and groom to drink from at the same time, they are predominantly known as Wager Cups. Guests at parties would be challenged to drink from both ends of the cup without spilling - a tricky endeavour.
A. Michelsen of Copenhagen, established in the mid-19th century by Anton Michelsen, was a leading Danish jeweller celebrated for its exceptional craftmanship and distinctive Scandinavian design. In our August auction, we have this pair of silver wave pattern six branch candelabra (Lot 143). These are not only practical, but make for striking decorative pieces.
Finally, we wanted to take a look at Lot 313, a Montblanc Bohéme Platinum Line No Stone three piece fountain pen, ballpoint pen and propelling pencil set. Montblanc are associated with fine writing instruments and the Bohéme line is no exception. The fountain pen features a retractable nib and a cartridge filling system, and is accompanied by a ballpoint pen and propelling pencil, meaning you can have the right writing instrument for any occasion.
This is a timed online auction ending on Thursday 15 August, with lots closing sequentially at 30 second intervals from 10.30am BST.
