Following on from our auction last year, we are pleased to offer the second instalment of the Hewell and Tardebigge Model Steam Railway Collection in our Transport Sale on 1 March 2022.
The collection features thirty six lots (Lots 78-114) of 5 inch gauge locomotives and rolling stock which have been regularly run at Model Steam Railway. Ahead of the auction we pick out some of the highlights.
From the selection we have Lot 78, an exhibition standard 5 inch scale model of a British Railways 9F 2-10-0 tender locomotive No 92220, called 'Evening Star'. The silver soldered copper boiler has cab fittings including twin water sight-glasses contained in brass protection frames. It also features steam ad vacuum gauges, drains, associated pipework, regulator, lever operated fire box doors, a direction control wheel, as well as a planked cab floor. The chassis comes with twin outside cylinders with fitted drain cocks, fluted motion and a water injector.
The six wheel tender is designed with a fitted coal compartment, detailed rivet-work, folding side doors for the protection of the fireman and driver, and comes with vents and a rear fitted ladder. The model is finished in traditional green and black lined livery, with detailed rivet-work and builders plates, and is fitted with steps, hand rails, lamp irons, couplings and vacuum hoses.
The collection also includes Lot 81, a rake of five 5 inch gauge passenger coaches by Doug Hewson. They are finished in chocolate and cream livery. These will be sold together with a rake of three British Railway maroon passenger coaches.
We then have Lot 79, a well engineered 5 inch Gaige model of an electrically powered Diesel Warship Class Locomotive called 'Onslort'. The model comes with fitted buffers, vacuum hoses and driver, together with a drivers hand control switch. It is then finished in British Railways green livery with name plates to the side.
Another highlight is Lot 80, a 5 inch gauge Diesel 'Teddy Bear' locomotive. the locomotive was built in 2009 from a kit supplied by Phoenix Locomotives of Southport to a design produced by Bushill Engineering Ltd. It is finished in British Railways two tone green livery, and fitted with steps, hand rails, lamps and couplings. The chassis is then made from laser cut welded steel with GRP Body. The engine is powered by a single Bosch 24 volt motor with bevel gear linkage to one axle and coupling rods to all wheels. The locomotive comes complete with its own driving car containing two batteries and an electric controller, including a diesel sound system.
This is a powerful engine and is suitable for general use or shunting. it will be sold with packing cases and user manuals.
