Coming up on 20 April we have our Transport Sale. The auction includes four private collections as well as a comprehensive collection of steam model locomotives from Gauge 1 to large 7 1/4 inch gauge locomotives, stationary engines, lathes and workshop tooling, marine related items, travel posters, automobilia and railwayana.
A highlight from the auction is Lot 13, a gauge 1 model of the live steam 4-6-2 British Railways Britannia Class tender locomotive No 70009 'Alfred the Great'. It is built in 10mm scale by Barrat Engineering of Walsall.
This model is coal fired with cab fittings including a steam pressure gauge, a water sight glass and regulator, as well as an axle driven water pump. The six-wheel tender comes with a fitted hand feed water pump, and is finished in British Railway green and black lined livery with detailed finish including fluted motion, steps, handrails and vacuum hoses. The locomotive comes with its own carrying case and firing tools.
Our Live Steam and Model Engineering specialist, Michael Matthews, has given this model a pre-sale estimate of £2,000-3,000 (+fees)
