On Wednesday 7 August, we are pleased to be offering the personal collection of Roger Saul, founder of Mulberry, in our auction Roger Saul: The Personal Mulberry Archive. Included in the auction are a number of accessories from the Mulberry Bottletop Campaign. Proceeds from all the Bottletop bags and accessories will go to The Bottletop Foundation. Here, we find out more about this initiative.
In 2002, Roger supported his son Cameron in launching a new charity endeavour The Mulberry Bottletop Campaign. Cameron had come back from working in Uganda for a charity teaching sexual health awareness as AIDS rampaged through Africa for a second time. He had found bags made out of used bottletops and wire and Roger put fashion coloured leather around the handles and inside.
The bags were launched to the press to great acclaim, with all the money going back to the charities. Bill Clinton, Kofi Annan and many other celebrities and world leaders got behind the campaign. David Bailey photographed many famous stars in support and Mulberry raised over a £250k for charities working in this sector.
Cameron has then taken this on to new heights working with the UN to promote the 17 UN Goals creating Together bands out of recycled ocean plastic and humanium, made out of melted down confiscated guns.
The #TOGETHERBAND campaign in partnership with the UN Foundation aims to support the delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. Their invitation to the world is to choose your Goal and stand behind it.
#TOGETHERBANDs are handmade using 100% waste materials by economically disadvantaged women and Indigenous communities. All profits support NGO's that advance the Goals.
