Known the world over as the ‘great assembler’ of beautiful things, Robert Kime’s unique eye and aesthetic sensibility led him to become one of the leading design figures of his generation. We are pleased to be offering his private collection in our auction Robert Kime: The Personal Collection on 4, 5 & 6 October 2023.
Having joined the Robert Kime team in 2010, Orlando Atty, worked closely with Robert over the years, and under his guidance and teaching, he rose to become Managing Director of Robert Kime Ltd in 2016. Ahead of the auction, Orlando picks out some of his favourite pieces from his friend and mentor's collection.

No. 2
Lot 101: A Victorian mahogany open armchair, late 19th century | Est. £1,000-1,500 (+ fees)
“This chair, which Robert inherited, has a lovely, lived-in look, as it has gently faded over the years”
No. 3
Lot 233: A painted model of a forty-two gun galleon, 19th century | Est. £500-1,000 (+ fees)
“Purchased from a good friend of Robert’s, this is an unexpected example of the painted models that Robert had. I’ve always admired the detail on this one.”
No. 4

No. 6
Lot 411: Caucasian dragon fragmentary carpet, 17th century | Est. £20,000-30,000 (+ fees)
“Robert hung this impressive ‘Dragon Carpet’ in France. It has a particularly wonderful scale, filling a space without being overwhelming.”

No. 8
Lot 265: A Ziegler carpet, West Persia, late 19th century | Est. £8,000-12,000 (+ fees)
“This carpet has interesting colours, especially the green. Again, it has a lovely faded, lived in look which was always an essential in Robert’s interiors.”

Lot 209: An antiquarian gilt metal mounted 'Bog Oak' pedestal, probably Irish, mounted in the early 19th century | Est. £800-1,200 (+ fees)
