Amma exists in the space where stillness and motion converge, where breath becomes form and the intangible is made visible. She is an artist’s proof from Based Upon’s Breath series, a monolith that invites a shift in perception. Combining algorithmic lighting and sound, Amma engenders a state of presence in the viewer. Created through meditation, her form is drawn from casts of scars found in the ancient limestone landscape of Inis Oirr—impressions of time and erosion, the silent memory of the earth itself. These textures, reimagined in Amma, invite us into a state of internal quiet, a space between presence and absence, between the physical and the intangible. The play of light across Amma’s surface reveals new perspectives, new contours, new depths. What seems solid becomes fluid; what appears defined begins to blur. She is a reminder that nothing is fixed, that creation is continuous, that we are always on the edge of becoming. Amma is the origin of Based Upon’s bespoke sanctuary spaces. The techniques and technologies developed through its making have gone on to shape larger works; entire environments designed for reflection, transformation, and stillness. Found in both public and private collections globally, these spaces carry forward the essence of Amma: a return to presence, to silence, to breath.
Based Upon has gained a reputation as a highly sought after artist and studio with an intuitive eye for innovation, beauty and meaning.
